BIOMIC Program is funded by the Government of Uganda through the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat – Office of the President (STI-OP) and coordinated at Makerere University Lung Institute.

The BIOMIC Program 2026, is a 6-months Venture Development Accelerator where teams tackle real-world challenges by applying new technologies and design thinking, using fundamental research to develop tangible solutions for societal needs, fostering creativity, collaboration, and broader economic development in a structured, focused environment to create impactful innovations beyond traditional R&D.

The BIOMIC Program is a 6-9 Months hybrid program designed to support startups and researchers building innovative healthcare and biotechnology solutions. The program provides mentorship, funding opportunities, technology resources and commercialization support.
The program runs for 6-9 months from the date of cohort announcement (starting 25th March and ending 10th September 2026). Following the Accelerator Demo Day, Top 3 startups will be given recommended for funding and offered tailored mentorship designed to help them scale further and explore PoC/pilot and investment opportunities.
The program focuses on experiential learning, founder development, and partnership opportunities. Founders will benefit from: ● Mentorship from global experts
● 1-on-1 anchor mentor-led sessions
● Investor and business connections
● Exposure to potential partnership opportunities
● Commercialization of research
No. The program is free of charge.
Submit your application through the provided link. Be clear, precise, and detailed in your responses to help the jury effectively evaluate your solution.
The selection process involves a committee and advisory board comprising representatives and industry experts from both within and outside Uganda. After an initial screening, shortlisted startups will present demos of their solutions to the program committee, which will select the final cohort.
