The BIOMIC Program 2026, is a 6-months Venture Development Accelerator where teams tackle real-world challenges by applying new technologies and design thinking, using fundamental research to develop tangible solutions for societal needs, fostering creativity, collaboration, and broader economic development in a structured, focused environment to create impactful innovations beyond traditional R&D.
BIOMIC Program through this accelerator is looking to identify hi-tech, high potential startups, researchers and founders building innovative solutions fitting within the healthcare sector across the following industries:
Innovations that use technology to improve healthcare delivery, access, efficiency and patient outcomes. Includes digital platforms, medical devices, health data systems and patient engagement solutions.
Applications of biological systems and organisms to develop products that improve health and medicine. Includes genetic engineering, molecular biology and biopharmaceutical development.
Systematic investigation to generate new knowledge, validate ideas or solve healthcare challenges. Encompasses clinical, laboratory and data-driven research with measurable scientific impact.
Remote delivery of healthcare services using digital communication technologies. Covers virtual consultations, remote monitoring and platforms improving access to care.
Tools and technologies used to detect, monitor and predict diseases or medical conditions. Includes imaging, lab tests, point-of-care devices and AI-powered diagnostic solutions.
Development of biological preparations that provide or boost immunity against infectious diseases. Involves research, formulation, testing and scalable distribution strategies.
Treatments designed to manage, cure or prevent diseases and medical conditions. Includes drugs, biologics, digital therapeutics and novel treatment approaches.
Use of algorithms, research and data to enable systems to learn, predict and support decision-making in healthcare. Applies to diagnostics, drug discovery, patient risk prediction and workflow automation.
6-Months Hybrid Accelerator program with access to in-person expert sessions, virtual masterclasses and mentoring sessions, which will cover topics such as idea validation, product validation, route to market, IP, Product development and product scaling, partnerships.
Top 3-5 businesses selected for the Accelerator program will get be recommended for financial support/grants.
The Venture Bootcamp will culminate with a hybrid Demo Day, wherein the cohort will pitch to an audience comprising corporates, investors, DFIs and government agencies from Kampala and the Region. During the demo day Top-3 winners will be announced for further funding support.

It is mandatory that applicants should have a registered entity and be operational for a minimum 2 years or have ground breaking research with high potential of commercialization.
