Fintech has been pivotal in making strides in financial inclusion in East Africa, the cradle of mobile money. These technologies have made financial services affordable and convenient.
East Africa has always been hailed as the torchbearer to the fintech industry, driven by the same key disruptions as the global financial services world – use of alternate data, P2P transactions, and the rise of non traditional players offering financial services. But the principle enabler in the region has been strong mobile and internet penetration, in the bottom of the pyramid segments, which have driven success using basic USSD technology. The second key enabler was the gap in the financial services landscape across all key dimensions and markets – lending, savings & payments, and personal financial management, which allowed the fintechs to come in with a strong value proposition.
East Africa FinTech Bootcamp will help further revolutionize the FinTech ecosystem by spurring a stronger local FinTech entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation in the industry.

The EAFB was quite insightful to us as a start up with honest evaluation from industry leaders on how to get our priorities right as a business. The bootcamp also offered us a perfect opportunity to benchmark with startups operating within the fintech space thereby appreciating the strength of our diversity.
Joining the East Africa Fintech Bootcamp was a valuable step for Paylend. Together with my team, we scooped a lot of priceless lessons and knowledge from the mentors. The program also provided room to network with people from different parts of Africa and share ideas within the fintech space. The Bootcamp was simply a worthwhile value.
Going through the East Africa fintech bootcamp has been eye opening and led me to great connections, both from other founders and the mentors we met from several industries. It is intense and short but very rewarding. Ajay and Jagruti helped us with interest throughout the bootcamp. I recommend this programme to startup founders. Apply you won’t regret joining this community.
